Statement by the Jammu Kashmir National Students Federation
Dated: June 9th, 2026
The Jammu Kashmir National Students Federation unequivocally condemns the ongoing siege, curfew, internet blackout, and murderous state repression against the people’s movement in Pakistani administered Jammu Kashmir. For five days, the Pakistani state has cut Jammu Kashmir off from the world. Internet services have been suspended, towns have been militarized, and additional contingents of FC, Rangers, and police have been deployed to crush a democratic people’s movement.
Yet despite the crackdown, communication blackout, every attempt to frighten, divide, and isolate the people, the masses of Jammu Kashmir have defied the state. They have broken through fear, crossed barriers, rejected propaganda, and continued to move in huge numbers toward Muzaffarabad. The people have shown that no blackout can cut them off from one another when their struggle is rooted in shared suffering, anger, and collective resolve!
On the night of 8 June, state forces opened direct fire on protesters in Rawalakot, Poonch. According to reports available so far, at least 13 people have been killed and hundreds have been injured. Curfew has been imposed in Poonch, turning whole areas into open-air prisons to isolate the people, hide the scale of state violence, and break the will of the masses through fear.
Today, on 9th June, following the call of the Joint Awami Action Committee, protesters continued their long march toward Muzaffarabad. In Kotli, reports are emerging that Pakistani forces have again opened direct fire on the people. At least 6 deaths are being reported, while the actual number remains unconfirmed and may be higher (some reports indicate the actual number may be between 8-11). The state is trying to drown a legitimate political movement in blood but even this violence has failed to stop people from moving toward Muzaffarabad in historic numbers.
JKNSF rejects this repression, censorship, curfew, and propaganda in the strongest possible terms. But we also salute the courage of the people who have defied every tool of repression placed before them. Their resistance has exposed the weakness of a state that needs blackouts, bullets, blockades, and lies to answer a people’s democratic demands. A people’s movement cannot be crushed through blackouts, bullets, sedition cases, or puppet institutions. Every death, every injury, every arrest, and every act of humiliation will deepen the anger of the people and expose the real face of the occupation regime.
We demand:
- Immediate lifting of the curfew in Poonch and all other areas.
- Immediate recall of FC, Rangers, police contingents, and all additional forces sent from Pakistan into Jammu Kashmir.
- Immediate cessation of firing, shelling, tear gas, arrests, raids, intimidation, and all forms of state violence against protesters.
- No blockade, obstruction, firing, arrest, or administrative restriction must be imposed on the long march toward Muzaffarabad. The people must be allowed to exercise their democratic right to march and assemble.
- Immediate and unconditional restoration of internet services across Pakistani administered Jammu Kashmir.
- Immediate reversal of the decision to proscribe the Joint Awami Action Committee.
- Immediate withdrawal of all cases, FIRs, sedition charges, and other legal proceedings against protesters, activists, and JAAC leaders.
- The Inspector General (IG) of police in Jammu Kashmir must be charged with the murder of the people killed by forces.
- The puppet Prime Minister of Jammu Kashmir must immediately resign for presiding over this bloodshed and acting as an instrument of Pakistani state repression.
- All demands of the Joint Awami Action Committee and the people of Jammu Kashmir must be fulfilled as promised, including the abolition of the 12 seats used for decades to subvert the popular will and maintain outside control over the people of Jammu Kashmir.
JKNSF calls upon students, workers, peasants, trade unions, progressive organizations, leftist collectives, and all oppressed peoples across Kashmir, Pakistan, and the world to stand in revolutionary solidarity with the masses of Jammu Kashmir.
The siege must end!
The forces must leave!
The people’s demands must be fulfilled!
Knowledge, Struggle, Victory!
